I completely agree with you Rajneesh. Mohanlal is amongst the greatest living actors today...

Mohanlal is one of the best actors Indian cinema has ever produced. He never overplays things. Malayalam cinema is lucky to have two 'talented' superstars in Mammootty and lal. Lal is more versatile, but Mammootty has enacted more variety roles like Chandu in Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha

Add to what Ganesh said, there are some roles that only Lal can act. All the comedy roles and Vaanaprastham are testimony to that. These are beyond Mammootty. But Mammootty's Ponthanmada and such roles are beyond Lal.
But both of them, for many decades, have defined two different Malayali masculinity.

INEVITABLE is a comparison with Mammootty. But that begins and ends in Kerala. On a pan-India picture, Mohanlal is leaps ahead. If it is all about power-house acting, then there are many on the list: Mammoootty, Kamal Haasan, Shivaji Ganeshan, Thilakan, Bharat Gopi, Om Puri, Soumitra Chatterjee, N Shah Nedumudi Venu and Surya. But Lal's flexibility stands out. Amir Khan and Vikram may come close to Lal in the RACE.
